ode to this bag

I found you
in an expensive thrift store
where name brands are pricy
even though second hand

You were made by "chocoholic"
and that is why you were cheap
duffle-bag-cuteness
of blue and red houses and trees

I know I do not need you
since I have others
but my fancy is tickled
by new things, plus

bags are useful, helpful,
holding and transporting my stuff
and, a case could be made that it is a sign of intelligence since bags set us apart from the other animals,
since only humans carry their baggage around.

shitbarf

This graffiti tag is one of my favorites and I see it each morning on my walk to work.  It is simple and to the point; And, weirdly positive for some reason.
The everyday of walking to work – the everyday of what I wear – sometimes I struggle with what to share.  It sometimes is mundane even if I am wearing items that are bright and bold.

My mind is on random things this morning – my sick cat, the swelling in my knee that is helping me to limp, the challenges of work, and thinking about my Halloween 5K run of which I will strive to create a “robot alien” outfit.  With Halloween comes Fall and with Fall comes change and the end of certain things: the end of softball, the end of going sockless and jacketless, the end of happily running outside,  the end of tuna salad.  But it is also the start of soups, football, heavier sweaters and feeling ok about sitting on the couch since it is rainy outside.

and now for something completely different

I am prepped and ready to go out for a hen party for a good friend of mine.  And, I am willing to openly debate why “hen party” is LESS derogatory than “bachelorette party”.

thinking about my week

I find myself introspective and trying to stay on top of not being overwhelmed with life stuff.  I’m not exactly sure how that relates to what I am wearing but mood definitely impacts decisions, especially those made in the darkness of 6am.   This week was about trying to let go, to be ok with trying my best and trying to not take it all so seriously.  I am not sure that I succeeded this week.

I love animals

This shirt (Target) has birds on it.  There seems to be a wave of fashion all about animals.  Birds, cats, horses, elephants, and I have even seen a hedgehog sweater.  Is it about nature and being green?  Is it about cute adorableness?  I have happily succumbed to this trend and perhaps that is the point (and marketing genius) – that you would have to be mostly dead inside not to get gushy about these animal patterns.

lucky stripes

Today should be a nice day and I am lucky today to be wearing a new fun skirt that was on 50% 50% sale from Loft.  I was at the mall getting a specific item* that is not fun to shop for, so my friend and I spent some time NOT staying on target.  When I shop with myself, it is hard enough to say no; but when shopping with an enabler, it is even more difficult on my shopping morals.  Believe it or not, I do not buy everything that I like – I do try to be realistic when it comes to cost and if it will fit in my small closet.  But the criteria of (a)sale, (b)fit, (c)pattern, and (d)color was met, so this little skirt got to come home with me.  Lucky me.

moves like jaeger

Those who know me might not know that I like scarves.  Typically I wear them often because I am cold.  But this summer I am using my enthusiasm to wear “warm weather scarves.”  Over the weekend, I did a Goodwill run and found a few scarves.  The one that I am wearing today was made by Jaeger (http://www.jaeger.co.uk/) which I had to look up since I was not familiar with the brand.  The one around my neck is probably vintage and I feel like it is a WIN since the scarves on the website are about 100 pounds each.  I guess cost does not always mean better, but when you find something for a few bucks in a thrift store, it is charming to find out that it was worth more than you expected.  A mini antique roadshow.
I am on the fence about these “warm weather scarves” since it can easily get a bit matronly.  But this one is light and feathery and I am wearing with a cute green jean pencil skirt with my “shhhhh” sandals to tone down the whole look.  Not too bad for a Monday.
