new shirt
Today is a full day of training and class, so I wanted to fuel my day with my new shirt. Why is it awesome? Besides the color/pattern that is subtle and makes it fairly youthful, it has a tie thing that can be removed and worn separately. Liking the look. Wearing with blue jeans since I did not have to be offically at work.

Orange-you-glad
I have this thing where I enjoy introducing new or used (new to me) items into my wardrobe. I find it fun and a reason to get excited about getting out of bed and going to work. I have not yet decided if this is a problem such that I am compensating for a lack of something in my life and fulfilling it with clothes. I do think it is important to put thought into how you portray yourself to others – the decisions about what you put on your body each day do say something about yourself. Of course, you cannot control the response that people have; people will react to your decisions through the glasses of their own life experiences.
With that all being said, I am wearing a new orange sweater today. Its maiden voyage! It may be one of my new favorite finds (Sears!) and I already wonder how I have lived this long without a sweater like this. Granted, I do have a gray/orange stripped sweater but this is waaaaay different.
I have paired with a shirt I got on sale at Gap – it is a brighter version of cammo. I am not sure how I feel about wearing a cammo-print shirt, but this one really grabbed me in the store a few months back. I am wearing it with my trusty yellow polka-dotted scarf and now that I am waking up a bit more, I do wonder if it is too matchy matchy in a clashy clashy way. But I am going to go with it. I am wearing it with navy pants and sneakers to tone down all the brightness.
So, I am not sure how much new clothes is too much new clothes. I do a good job of combing out old clothes to give away to Goodwill or to GoodKatie. When I get new items, it actually inspires me to get rid of things that I do not wear often. I can finally let go of an item that is close to what I want but not exactly it. A bit free-ing.

...and a bit of katie too
I do not have a clever song to rewrite, but I must share what I am wearing today as it is the SAME polka-dot shirt and a t-shirt that Katie provided to me. Sadly, no corresponding fun scarf or earrings.
A little bit of kris in my life...and too much lou bega
A little bit a Kris in my life, a little bit of stripes on my side.
A little bit of scarf is all I need, a little bit a polka-dots is what I see.
A little bit of face in the sun, a little bit of earrings all night long.
A little bit of spectacles here I am, a little bit of sass is what I can.
Krisrobot gave me this striped shirt recently. We also own the same polka-dot shirt. No. Not by chance. But there was love at first sight for both of us. The lyrics just fell into place....
I dedicate this to you Robot Kris. Smooches,

Feelin’ put together today
Today is all about wearing my black boots. I rarely wear heels so this is an event. I got them on super super sale with a coupon and they are Dansko so I feel pretty proud of myself. I am definitely getting on the boot bandwagon and I am not sure how I feel about that. Usually I like picking and choosing certain looks that are going around, but the boot phenomenon is a bit out of control. Too many people wearing brown boots with black pants; too many people tucking in pants into their boots that shouldn’t. So needlesstosay, I have mixed feelings of owning multiple boots. But it allows me to wear more skirts in the winter so that is a plus.
Today, I am wearing them with black tights, a jean skirt, my grandma flower shirt and a newish orangy belt. (Thanks for Katie for pushing me toward belt-ism.) I feel a good mix of fancy and comfort. I am just on the edge of a cowboy outfit if you know what I mean.

somewhat mermaid
Today was a perfect rainy day to look slightly mermaidish. Wearing my gray boots with navy stockings
with my green jean skirt and green stripped top. Nothing fancy. But the nice mix of casual and dressy. And green.

Feeling 50
So, I got a little carried away. Unintentionally I became a strange blend of June Cleaver and Betty Draper...hm, Don Draper and June Cleaver...
Anyway, I can't help myself when it comes to retro fashion. It's awkward and cute.

As I am always looking for new ways to style my bangs I settled for the mini victory roll. A bit tricky with short bangs but do-able. I then curled the rest of my hair in all the same direction, pinned it in a low swoop off to the side, then twisted the curls to be one. Notice my cute button earrings that I made!
My cobalt blue dress with white polk-a-dots buttoned all the way up. This was a thrift store find somewhere in WI. My new favorite cardi, mustard yellow-orange over top. The red belt and red shoes are a bit matchy, but I didn't seem to mind.
I got so caught up in the moment that it wasn't until I was ready to walk out the door that I realized I was a bit over dressed for the occasion and venue. A sports bar for beer and wings with casual friends. I decided to unpin my hair, leaving in the victory roll, loosened up my color, removed the belt and zipped on some boots. But don't worry, I didn't loose all the 50's flair, just softened the blow of Betty Draper barreling through the door. Katie May
